FFX- Will 2009 be the year the Lions win the flag?

Press Conference- Michael Voss tells his views about his first season as coach of the Lions.

Q: G`day Vossy. So tell us, you were announced as new coach of the Brisbane Lions just a short time ago, how do you feel about that, especially taking over one of the all time greats, Leigh Matthews?

V: Yeah mate, well I was very excited when i was told the news. Obviously Leigh Matthews has done a very good coach for the Lions, but i think i am capable of the job.

Q:What are your objectives for the 2009 season, will you be able to lead the Lions to greater heights with young kids like Daniel Rich, who I`ve heard has a booming left foot, Aaron Cornelius and many more?

V:Yeah, those young kids, actually young men, have alot of potential in making a debut sooner or later. Well i think that my objective is just to make finals come September.

Q:Will you be taking it easy on your players as most of your players used to be your premiership teammates?

V: Not at all mate, I do not aim to take it easy on any players, being former teammates do not mean anything at all to me.

Q: Well Vossy, all the best and have a good time at the club, mate.

V: Cheers, mate.

Round 1 Preview: Brisbane v Eagles

V

Hello ladies and gentlemen, we are now having a look into the Round 1 Blockbuster with the Lions and Eagles playing against each other at the Gabba . Now the Lions didnt do too bad last year finishing ninth, but had a less impressive pre-season, having losing by 46 points against the Kangas at their first pre-season match. Now the Eagles had a disappointing year last year but had a good pre-season, so this will be a very close match. Aaron Cornelius and Daniel Rich will be debuting this week and Michael Voss expects them to have a very big impact on the game. Now if you didnt know, Cornelius plays in the forward line while Rich usually plays on the wing. And another pair of people who is said to make a major impact in the game is the key forwards consisting of Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw. They are expected to both kick a bag of goals. And for the Eagles, Fiji-origin first-round draft pick Nicholas Naitanui will be making his AFL Debut as well, he is usually a ruckman but can play up forward as well.Quinten Lynch and Ashley Hansen are also key forwards and they will be needed to kick a bag of goals if they are to beat a very good Lions side. Now lets have a look at the odds for the game, Lions: $2.00 and Eagles: $1.70, very close but the Eagles are the favourites for the Round 1 match and lets have a look at the squads for the Lions and the Eagles as we go to the break.

It won't be a smashing. But i do expect the Lions to get up and have a win. Brown and Bradshaw are going to be a handful up forward for the Lions, and with Rhan Hopper crumbing at their feet, it should be a Lions victory

Lions Draw First Blood

The Lions have gotten a perfect start to the season by winning against a very disappointing Eagles side by 46 points. Daniel Rich starred in his AFL Debut, kicking 1 goal and grabbing 26 disposals, he couldn't ask for a better debut indeed. Aaron Cornelius also did well in his first game grabbing 16 disposals and kicking a beautiful goal from 45m out. Once again, Brown and Bradshaw dominated as usual. Brown kicked 6 while Bradshaw kicked 4. The Eagles` plan to stop Brown and Bradshaw obviously failed. Mark Lecras starred for the Eagles kicking 5 goals. The Selwood brothers played against each other and didnt take it easy at all at each other. But the Lions would never take it easy against the Eagles with Tim Notting and Jared Brennan getting reported for strking Troy Selwood and Quinten Lynch. We will bring you the news from the tribunal tomorrow. But for now, its goodbye from me and have a good weekend, with the Brisbane Lions thrashing The West Coast Eagles by 46 points in front of a crowd of 32,000 at the mighty Gabba.

Brisbane- 16.7=103 Eagles- 8.8= 56
Crowd: 32,000 at the Gabba.

Brisbane Goals: Jonathan Brown-6,Daniel Bradshaw-4,Michael Rischitelli-2, Daniel Rich-1, Aaron Cornelius-1, Troy Selwood-1, Simon Black -1

Eagles Goals: Mark Lecras-4, Quinten Lynch-3, Ashley Hansen-1

Brisbane Best: Jonathan Brown ( 6 goals 21 disposals 11 marks), Daniel Bradshaw ( 4 goals 17 disposals 9 marks), Simon Black ( 1 goal, 29 disposals 6 marks), Daniel Rich ( 1 goal, 26 disposals 5 marks), Michael Rischitelli ( 2 goals 15 disposals 7 marks)

Eagles Best: Mark Lecras ( 4 goals 18 disposals 9 marks ), Quinten Lynch (3 goals 13 disposals 7 marks), Troy Selwood ( 0 goals 25 disposals 6 marks), Ashley Hansen ( 1 goal, 19 disposals 5 marks), Dean Cox ( 0 goals, 14 disposals, 4 marks)

I told you that the difference was going to be Brown and Bradshaw in the forward line. 10 goals between them. Daniel Rich had a very good debut match picking up 26 touches, and kicking a goal. He will certainly be a star of the future, if not, star of this year.

Good update mate, looking forward to the next match.

Great update, use of pictures, coloured text, well written etc. Was all very good, but the placement could have been better. For example the pictures left a big gap in the right, so it could have been placed more in the middle or at the bottom with a caption written in bold explaining what it means. Other than that a good win over the slime!

Michael Voss tells reporter Luke Darcy how he felt about the Lions` performance against the Eagles.

Darcy: G`day Vossy good to see you again mate. Gee mate, that match on the weekend was a fantastic one for you and your players wasn't it mate? And the Lions currently top of the ladder you couldnt ask for a better start.

Voss: Yeah Darce, it was a very satisfying day for me and the players and i was very excited for our debutants, Daniel Rich and Cornelius, they both had very good debuts.

Darcy: Speaking of Daniel Rich, he had a ripper of a match, i know it may still be to early to tell, but he certainly looked like a future Brownlow Medalist based on his performance on the weekend.

Voss: Yeah mate, Rich is a star in the making but he`s got alot of areas he needs to improve on but yeah he is a very exciting player and you never know, he could be one of the game`s future greats.

Darcy: You certainly rate him highly indeed mate. Now, as we all know, Tim Notting and Jared Brennan were both reported for striking on the weekend. How did that go down at the Tribunal?

Voss: Well mate, that was probably the only negative outcome from the match, both being very important players in our side. But dont worry, I got news from the Tribunal earlier on and fortunately they weren't suspended but they will be getting a fine.

Darcy: Well Vossy, we`ve got this piece of footage here token at Quarter time, and after looking at this, people certainly cant say that you are taking it easy on your players just because they were your ex-teammates can they?

Voss: * Laughs * Oh mate I was just telling them to step up, they were playing scrappy footy at the start and if we kept going the way we were, we would`ve lost i reckon. Yeah, and there's no better place to be honest at other than the footy field and i dont believe in going soft to my players.

Darcy: Thanks Vossy have a good one this weekend.

Voss: Cheers Darce.

Round 2 Preview Brisbane V Carlton at the Gabba

v

Well Guys, it is going to be a blockbuster of a match this weekend, with the Lions and Blues facing each other at the Gabba. Now the Lions are favourites for this match as the Blues have a very bad interstate record but the Blues could very well ccause an upset at this match, winning their Round 1 Match against the Tigers. Lets have a look at the Key players for this match. For the Lions, I reckon Brown and Bradshaw will have a massive impact on this game, kicking 10 goals between them last week against the Eagles last week. Now how about this young gun, Daniel Rich, he had the best debut you could ever think of didnt he. He and Simon Black will have a tough job in the center, as the Blues have a very good midfield. Now for Carlton, Brendan Fevola, Chris Judd, Murphy, Carazzo could all have a big impact and could possibly break down the Lions` backline and midfield. Now lets have a look at the squad for the match as we say goodbye to you.

Nice update, obviously no changes to the side which won last week.

Looks like the Lions got a beauty with Daniel Rich! He did well on debut didn't he.

Lucky there were no suspensions too!

It's going to be hard for the Lions midfield to hold the likes of Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Kruezer. I think the Blues will snatch this match, only just though
