Adelaide Crows 2008 Best and Fairest Count




Well done to Adelaide spear head Full Forward Brett Burton who has taken out the Crows 2008 Best and Fairest award. A close finish saw Burton win it above fellow forward Scott Stevens who had a stellar season with the Crows. Next came full back Nathan Bock who was selected in the All-Australian team in the centre half back position.
Burton had a wonderful season kicking 44 goals for the Crows, and even thought Burton missed 3 games through suspension, he still seemed to be very dangerous around goals. Burton is known for his high marking and his skill at ground level, this year he certainly showed that again, and was one of the better players in the competition.

gee i thought scott stevens would have been more of a chance. But still great effort from birdman and a great effort to you. This has been one of the quiet achievers in terms of pc stories IMO. Great work

Kris Massie Retiers


Adelaide utility Kris Massie has decided to call it quits after the 2008 season. Massie who played all of the Crows 22 games this season had one of his best seasons to date this year, but decided it was time to give it away and start to begin a family. Massie who played 141 games with Carlton and Adelaide was a very determined player. Had some down season, ecspecially 2005 where he only played the 3 games, but since 2006 was back in some good form.
Kris Massie is the only Crow to have retired at the end of this season, speculation was that McLeod, Goodwin, Edwards, Bassett and Biglands would all finish their careers this year, but they think the Adelaide squad is going somewhere and they all want to be apart of next season..
Adelaide Crow coach Hayden Sumner said that Massie will certainly be missed, he was one of our generals in defence this year, and it will be big shoes to fill.

Few great names retire


So a few greats of the game had decided to call it quits after the end of the 08 season. None bigger then St.Kilda's own Robert Harvey. Harvey has been a inspirational leader and contributor to the Saints for the past 21 years, and will sorely be missed by all AFL fans.
Peter Everitt has called it quits after being with 3 clubs, starting his career off at the Saints with Harvey, and then making his way to Hawthorn, before finishing his fine career with the Sydney Swans.
And i am sure that PPNR wouldn't be happy that Solomon and McManus retired either

Trade Week summary



So Adelaide have been very active in this year's trade week, as coach Sumner rekons that Adelaide needed a big clean out of players. The Crows gave away 6 players for the week and ended up picking 4 players. The Crows went for mainly forwards in this years draft and was able to pick up 2 of them being Ben McKinley from the West Coast Eagles, and Brad Fisher from Carlton. The Crows also picked up Chris Schmidt from Brisbane, and with the last trade of the week the Crows pick up Saints backmen, Sam Gilbert.

The Crows however did loose some experience in Trade week after trading Nathan Bassett to St.Kilda in exchange for Sam Gilbert. Nick Gill was also sent packing up to Brisbane as the 25 year old wanted a change in scenery. The Crows gave up, Jonathan Griffen and Ken McGregor inexchange for Ben McKinley to West Coast, and they also gave up Ivan Maric and Brad Moran to the Blues for Brad Fisher.

Overall it was a good trade week for the Crows as they picked up 2 key marking forwards, and alongside, Trent Hentschel, James Sellar and Brett Burton it will be a good looking forward line. Chris Schmidt if he has a good pre season, might find himself replacing Kris Massie's position in defence after Massie retired at seasons end.

Adelaide's draft Bio's


Donnie Willard - Donnie is a key marking forward that the Crows are expecting to play a handful of games in season 2009. The 193cm and 90kg kid, at the age of 18 is a massive unit and will certainly give more forward power in the Crows forward line. He is certainly a strong kid, he will certainly use his strength more then often against defenders, but his speed and agility is pretty low down. But it is something the Crows are looking forward to seeing in 2009.


Michael Panky - Panky is another forward the Crows will try and squeeze some games into this year. He is a medium type forward, like Burton. 186cm and 98kg's, he is certainly a big built man for 17. Another man that could be a future prospect for the Crows in the goal kicking area.


Rory Wicks - And another forward that the Crows picked up with Rory Wicks. This time for a shorter pocket type goal sneak. 179cm and 73 kilos, this kid can certainly play. Although he may not play a game this year, he will gradually improve his game, and should be a good long term player for the Crows.

Adelaide Crows Rookie drafts Bio's


Daryl Keatts - Daryl is a hard working forward. Another forward option the Crows picked up, and being their first pick in the rookie draft. Daryl is a 185cm 78 kilo 18 year old kid. He will certainly be a good player for the Crows, but being a medium forward, might find it difficult finding room in the Crows forward line now, with all their National Draft picks being key forwards.


Keven Pepper - Pepper is another forward line option players for the Crows. Another medium sized forward, who is 18. The Crows might just have picked up too many key position players, but with Burton on the way out in a couple of years, they are bound to try and few things. at 188cm and 75 kilo's, this 18 year old kid might have to fight his way into the line-up.


Logan Eveson - A different type of player. Logan is a 192cm ruckman. He isn't the height of a normal ruckmen, but certainly has the agility and atletism to match it with the best in the league when it comes to rucking. Eveson can also play in defence, and will help out Bock and Rutten in defence this year. Sumner has good prospects of this kid.


Joel Tippett - The Brother of Kurt, the Crows picked him up just because of that. Joel was delisted by the Lions at the end of the year, so the Crows decided to pick him up next to his brother. Joel is 194cm and at 20 years of age, will be given just the one year contract, if the Crows don't see any improvment, i wouldn't be suprised if he isnt on the list next year.


Rudi Alinson - Rudi is a mature aged 17 year old who knows a lot about his footy. The 192c, is already at 100kg's and is still growing. This kid will be a massive unit in future years. Plays as a midfield, he carries his kilo's well, and plays like a smal midfielder. The Crows should keep this kid for future plans.

Adelaide Crows 2009 List management



So with the Adelaide Crows being very active in Trade week and picking up 3 players in the National Draft and then another 4 in the rookie draft it seems to be the same looking Crow outfit this season. The Crows traded away players that didn't play much Senior footy last year, with the exception of Nathan Bassett who went to St.Kilda.
It will be interesting too see which Traded player will have the most impact for the Crows in the upcoming 2009 season, and wether any of the Crow ne recruits from the Natiaonl Draft get a game this season, well we're about to find out.

What will the impact of their veterans have. Andy McLeod, Tyson Edwards, Rhett Biglands and Captain Simon Goodwin may all be on their last year of AFL footy, so will they give it all they've got. Or it will it just be a flop season, hopefully the Crows can pick up the good winning form they reduced at the end of last season, and start to win some matches at the beginning of the year to help their chances of playing Finals footy.

NAB Cup Round 1 - Sydney vs Adelaide @ SCG


Swans thrash Crows in NAB Cup.


Sydney Swans have given the Crows a big hiding in their NAB cup round 1 clash tht e SCG yesterday. It was the first game between the 2 sides as the year started off again. Many teams don't really care about the NAB cup competiton, and that's what Adelaide coach Sumner said. "The NAB cup doesn't really count for anything. It is just a good way to get the younger kids out on the park and enjoy playing Senior Football. It is a good way to get coaches to look at their new players and see if they are ready to play.

The Swans beat the Crows by 66 points in the end, and the Swans had a big tally of goal kickers. Ex Cat Henry Playfair and Amon Buchanan were the best for the Swans as they both kicked 3 goals, while Nick Davis, Ryan OKeefe, Jarred McVeigh all kicked 2. Barry Hall was kept quiet by Nathan Bock who started the season off were he left last year, and that was in good form, having a whooping 34 touches.
Burton was the only multiple goal scorer for the Crows kicking 3.
