Another way would be to turn a batsman into a keeper, but that would have many problems.

Maybe in Odis Drew that could be a viable option, but personally I wouldn't like anyone who hasn't kept for a fairly long portion of their career behind the stumps in test cricket. A chap might average 20 more than Read or Foster, but if he drops a dolly off a world class batsman, it would take a lot of runs to make him worth the place!

Although I don't agree with the making a batsman into a keeper idea, I think if the selectors where to go down that road then they could always put Tres behind the stumps again. Provided he is actually back.

Prior for me though, he's quality.

Trescothick will never be back, imagine the sledging he will get.

Trescothick is a big man who can handle himself. The sledging will just bounce straight off him and his bat will do the talking. Tres will be back and he'll be as good as usual.

Can we Keep the talk to domestic cricket rather than the England team.

But a central point of the debate was domestic wicket-keepers...

But in the Australia Domestic Season thread they're always talking about who can, might, can't, or will play for Australia. Mr Sly never stops them either

Hopefully he makes a return to Somerset, and has a second lease of life like Thopey did after his problems.

Go to Kev's study right now and wait for him...

I have to say that I reckon potential England players is fair game for this thread. Discussion of how Tresco will react if he is recalled is borderline though.

Sussex have signed Saqlain Mushtaq. He has a British passport and will not count as an overseas player. He'd become eligible for England in 2008.

Both Mushtaqs bowling for Sussex should give them a fearsome spin attack this year!

Bloody nora that's a good signing for Sussex. I suppose a bit of a downer to the signing is that Yardy might not be bowling as much anymore but I suppose batting is his strongest suit anyway.

If he finds some form and his old doosra, a quality signing for Sussex who will probably retain the title. On your second note - Mushtaq bowling with Monty for England... what a site that would be

Yardy bowls in OD cricket mainly, he does at times in First class but not really.

Meh, one Murali is more than a match for a Mushy and Mushy combo.
