Cricket referencing music does not occur often and cricket themed bands are even rarer, but soon it seems there will be more than one cricket concept album in existence.

The new album, Sticky Wickets, will be out in time for the Ashes, on July 1st. It follows 2009′s self titled release, also coinciding with the last Ashes series in England.

The Duckworth Lewis Method is an Irish band chiefly comprised of Thomas Walsh, of Pugwash, (as the WG Grace styled Duckworth) and Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy (the more modernly groomed Lewis).

Duckworth explained, “Lewis and myself felt it would be at least 20 years before the world would want another ‘Duckworth Lewis Method’ album. But it rains a lot in Ireland so we revised our prediction of 20 years by using the Duckworth Lewis Method and it turns out we only needed to wait 4 years.”

Cricket tragics and sadists alike may recognise on the album cover the famous streak at Lords on August 4, 1975, by a Navy cook named Michael Angelow. The first single from the album has been posted to Youtube and is titled “It’s Not Cricket“. The song lists a few of the things which cricket is not; bankers, cyclists and Vlad the Impaler to name but a few. If this is anything to go by, the new album promises more chamber-pop nonsense and cheeky lyrics.

First reported on the forums yesterday and following a string of retailers pushing dates back, 505 Games have announced officially today the delay in the release of Ashes Cricket 2013, saying that

505 Games have today announced that Ashes Cricket 2013 release will now move to July. In conjunction with CA and the ECB, the decision has been taken to move the release date back in order to offer cricket fans the best possible gaming experience to compliment this historic back to back Ashes year.

“505 Games has made a commitment to creating a cricket game designed for cricket fans,” commented Tim Woodley, Senior Vice President Global Brand & Marketing at 505 Games. “Developer, Trickstar Games has taken the time to overhaul and rebuild the game engine to offer brand new features in batting, bowling and fielding. By pushing back our release date, this gives us the opportunity to deliver a quality cricket title.”

Ashes Cricket 2013 will launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii-U and PC.

The delayed release had been speculated for months from PlanetCricket sources and by rival developer Big Ant Studios, who believe that Ashes Cricket 2013 is unlikely to be out on the newly announced date either.

Meanwhile, to show that their game is well on the way to release, Big Ant Studios have provided PlanetCricket with two new screenshots, showing the game’s work in progress – including showing off the recently confirmed training nets.

The game looked unfinished and very rough. I asked how old the build was and they said this was close to the finished game. The dev was playing, not me. He could barely get bat on ball and I don't think it was because the AI was tough. Clunky animations, poor character models. Looked like a step back from Ashes 2009, forget IC 2010.

Don't get your hopes up.

Sorry if this doesn't deserve a new topic. Mods can merge this with any other topic. I think this needs to be known by everyone so posting a new topic.
BTW Sam writes for MCV India and is running IVG since long time. So we can take his word for the quality of the game.

Pocket Cricket hit Australia last year as a new variation to the cricket games we play on our computers and console. Gamers in Australia and New Zealand can get a free copy of Pocket Cricket by pre-ordering Ashes Cricket 2013 from EB Games.

For those that aren’t in Australia and NZ or aren’t looking at getting the game from EB Games there is another option to get the game by going to: www.pocketcricket.com.au or email sales@pocketcricket.com.au

Further on with the theme of the Ashes, Pocket Cricket will be available in a limited edition Ashes version with only 500 being printed.

From Cairns to Cricket Australia

Hundreds of new smartphone applications are popping up each day, so it’s not hard to completely forget about old-fashioned board and dice games. In fact, when was the last time you sat down and played a game of cards or Monopoly?

With this in mind, three regular Aussie mates decided to revive the entertaining and social dice game and bring back old school face-to-face table top gaming.

Hamish Sterling, one of the original three developers of the dice game, Pocket Cricket, said Australians already loved their creation.

“We believe people of all ages love dice games and, in Australia, they also love cricket,” Hamish said.

“Our product is affordable, portable and can be played anytime, anywhere – without batteries or power cords.”

With very few board games designed in Australia, and no sports-based dice games, Pocket Cricket had little competition and quickly took off with cricket and gaming fans.

“After offering it to a few other games publishers and being turned down, we self-published and tested the water with an initial print run of 1000 units,” Hamish said.

“We then approached Cricket Australia to seek their logo and successfully negotiated an agreement.”

Pocket Cricket is now part of Cricket Australia’s merchandise range and is sold at all international cricket matches throughout Australia.

But Hamish and his team didn’t want to stop there. The next stop for Pocket Cricket had to be the home of cricket – the UK.

“We’ve got a couple of retailers in the UK and have recently signed a deal to produce branded sets for a very popular County Cricket team,” Hamish said.

From a couple of mates with an idea to one of the biggest sporting merchandise companies in the country, Pocket Cricket is spreading around the world one coffee table and pub bar at a time.
To help you can search by first name in cr*c*nfo. I think we'll have to have a ban, for now, on (adopted name) Mohammed

I'll start with Ian/Iain :

OPN Iain Sutcliffe (ENG)
OPN Ian Redpath (AUS)
BAT Ian Chappell (AUS)
BAT Ian Bell (ENG)
ALR Ian Harvey (AUS)
ALR Ian Botham (ENG)
WKT Ian Healy (AUS)
ALR Iain Butchart (ZIM)
BWL Ian Johnson (AUS)
BWL Ian Bishop (WIN)
BWL Ian Bradshaw (WIN)

Not the worst XI in the world to start with, Sutcliffe never opened for England, but has a county best of 203 and frankly I can't be checking every opener to see if there's one better.

Johnson played for the aussies after the war, decent lower order batsman with a highest score of 77 and half a dozen fifties in 66 innings, while bowling his off spin at under 30 average.

Bradshaw was more of a one day specialist, it was a toss up between him and Butler of New Zealand. Harvey also specialised in one dayers.

The batting is a bit thin, but if Botham were used as in devastating short spells he could up his batting average a bit. It was a toss up between Healy and Smith of New Zealand for the keeper. Neither has a strong average, but Healy did get within touching distance of 30 (29.90) when he scored his last big score of 134 against England, thereafter he didn't pass 36 and his average dipped.

So there's two ways of getting started, think of a common name or think of a few greats with the same first name and bundle an XI together - like I did with Ians Chappell, Botham and Bishop. I'd suggest Richard (Hadlee et al) and Donald (Bradman et al) would be good starting points.

Graeme/Graham

OPN Graeme Pollock (SAF)
OPN Graham Gooch (ENG)
BAT Graeme Smith (SAF)
BAT Graham Thorpe (ENG)
BAT Graham Yallop (AUS)
ALR Graeme Hick (ENG)
WKT Graham Edwards (NZL)
BWL Graeme Swann (ENG)
BWL Graham Lock (ENG)
BWL Graham Dilley (ENG)
BWL Graham Onions (ENG)

Had to leave out Fowler from the batting, very strong in that department. With Swann and and Lock (ave 25.58) among the bowling, and Onions and Dilley, this looks a fairly strong XI. Hick is in as a batting all-rounder, to provide a fifth bowler and Smith and Gooch capable of bowling a few overs too. This looks like the XI to beat, I wonder if a Malcolm or some XI with a superb bowler might provide enough batting to top it.

So right after the Champion trophy, there is a tri-series starting in West Indies. The other two teams are India and Sri Lanka. West Indies were one of the favorites to win the champions trophy because of their strong batting and a decent bowling attack but they had a rather surprising exit because of the D/L rules. Sri Lanka were scratchy in their first game against NZ in the champions trophy but they have made a strong comeback afterwards and right now, they are on verge of entering the semi finals. India has surprised everybody with the way they have played so far in the champions trophy. They have gone with a young squad and most of the players have done well. So hopefully it will be a good series which can help ODI format become a little more popular.

India has decided to go with the ame squad: India in West Indies 2013 : India squad unchanged for West Indies tri-series | Cricket News | Celkon Mobile Cup | ESPN Cricinfo

India Squad: MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Shikhar Dhawan, M Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan, Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar

Ashes IS out on the 21st. My lovefilm rental list has this game moved from "reserved" to "high priority". They don't do that unless their warehouse receives stock. To make doubly sure I phoned them (don't say I don't do anything for you) to see and they said yes, they have it and it will be posted Thursday. :thumbs
