Well I was born in the US and got into cricket by visiting my grandparents in England, thus why I support England. I also like the Windies simply because their time zone is only a few hours ahead of mine and I get to watch most of their matches at a reasonable hour.

It is growing but I don't think it can reach allot of the countries. I will say with some confidence that I'm the only guy from my country that likes cricket. Probably because I like every sport on the face of this earth and try to watch as many as I can.

Its just my opinion, but I absolutely despise anyone who hates his own country when it comes to any sport (be it cricket, football, hockey, etc). You need not support your country like any other die hard fan (or even fan) out there that exists, but you SHOULD NOT criticise them when they are doing well. I have seen many instances of people who either pull down the opposition's capabilities or attribute the good performance of a respective player to the natural conditions (ie. pitch, etc).

According to me, you can say "India is not doing well, they are not bowling well, their batting has been inconsistent" as opposed to "India will never do well, there is no point in supporting this crap bowling attack, these guys will never learn".

P.s: Just took India as example because I support them.

Yea agreed, over here in the US its more obscure than speed skating. None of my friends know anything about cricket besides "that it lasts for 5 days"

Even when Australia won the World Cup in the Windies they did not mention a word about it on sportscenter

If only..

Lets not turn this into a cricket vs baseball thing. Both are great sports and have their own advantages and challenges.

As much as I would like it to, I do not think that cricket will take off here, we are still hesitant to accept soccer even after our women won the world cup, Beckam came here, MLS, soccer on TV etc.

ESPN did talk about the Irish run in the WC too.

But whenever the media talks about cricket it always seems to be in a somewhat mocking tone.

Yes and every once in a while I do see random cricket references. Even on the Colbert Report there was a segment on the Gary Kirsten Sex advice.

My point being, Australia wins the world cup for a record 3 times in a row, less than 6 hours away from the US and it was not mentioned on that day. They lightly addressed it on PTI the next day, but then again, it was more than making fun of cricket for 30 seconds than news.

They also addressed Symonds attacking the streaker on PTI, ofcourse

yea there just isn't enough exposure on TV. When I first started following cricket there used to be a half hour show every Wednesday (I think it was) on just cricket and highlights and that kind of stuff but now there isn't a single thing.

when I lived in spain for a while there was so little coverage the only mention I ever saw of the word in the paper was when a domestic abuse case had involved someone using a cricket bat.

this line pretty much sums it up

Quote:
Hablar de cine jordano es como hablar de críquet en España o de toros en Polonia.
which is basically, talking about films from Jordans is like talking about cricket in spain or bull fighting in poland.

I must say, I'm surprised in serbia they even had a half hour show.

I'm not really a massive proper sri lankan fan, I just sort of ended up rooting for them when I started watching cricket. I like a bit of an underdog.

and I just can't get behind england all that much I know it's really petty but I can't. I like durham cause coetzer (sometimes) plays for them though.

I was born in Azerbaijan, where cricket doesn't even exist.

9 years ago I moved to Australia and only recently (year ago) I got into cricket.
