World Cup 2011 (hosts)

Well, Mani said the World Cup bid of Asia has been damaged or something. Can some one shed more light into what happened?

I wouldnt mind if its in Australia/New Zealand. I dont know where I will be in 2011 but the quality of grounds, cricket, etc would be very good in Australia. And I couldnt watch the 1992 World Cup because I didnt know anything abt cricket then. So would be good too! But I prefer Asia!

My bad, though I wouldn't definitely count on Fiji voting for Australia, if they are that associate. Doesn't India have a lot of influence on Fiji? I think the current or previous Fiji head of state was an Indian. Maybe I'm confusing it with another country, though.

I think they just terminated the rotation policy, recently.

I don't know much into the matter but Australia/NZ have a very good relationship with Fiji especially from Rugby 7s which is their main sport. I would say a vote from them is a certainty.

Yep rotation policy was terminated hence Asia is in the running for the 2011 WC.

The main problem started when the initial three world cups were hosted by England
They got 4 WC's whereas Asia two
South Africa,WI & AUS/NZ only one.

It should go to AUS/NZ as we havent had a major tournament there for years.
I'm counting the Super Series as a flop.

South Africa will also have problems with India, what with the Delhi police still having arrest warrants out in their name, if I'm not mistaken (unless things changed before their ODI tour).

Perhaps, but I still wouldn't be so sure. 44% of the population of Fiji is Indian, the second largest ethnic group after the native Melanesian. In sports it may be different, but one really needs to look at the ethnicity of their players. Also, Australia may have an edge in another regard because they are a major trade partner of Fiji, which means they can put considerable political pressure for Fiji's vote.

That is exactly what i was gonna say plus the last time it was in Asia i reckon it was arguably one of the worst World Cup's ever and in the previous post as it said about India's lack of facilities and health and hygiene issues look at Australia and maybe the New Zealand as we have the best facilities and accommodation and know how to put on a great show and we proved all of this in the 2006 commonwealth games and 2000 olympic games.

Come on Australia/New Zealand !!!!!!!!

The last World Cup was held in Asia in 1996. Exactly 10 years to the year. And you reckon that nothing has changed since then? Ignorance is bliss, I guess, for you. And why was it one of the worst World Cup's ever? It was probably one of the most competitive ones played of the last few ones. There was something for batsmen and bowlers, there was a then minnow team rising (Sri Lanka) and there were packed crowds for all the games.

I don't know why you are so concerned about accomodation--the games will be played in the major centers of the country--which guarantees many, many, many 5-star hotels. It's not like the players will be put up in a motel. Even on normal tours the players are housed in the finest hotels in the country.

Facilities--what do you mean by this? Better dressing rooms, press features, seating at the ground, what? Because it is not like these things are extremely difficult to change, if they are not up to par. And on your final point, that Australia knows how to put on a great show, I think it is quite invalid. There's nothing suggesting that a CWC in Aus/NZ will be better than one in Asia.

So, in conclusion, your only valid point is that Australia has not had a World Cup in a while. And that is the only reason I would hand it to them. As it happens, the ICC cannot hand over the World Cup, and the members will have to vote on it.

You may have the facilities but not the crowd which Asia have.I think ICC will be in huge loss if the next world cup will be hosted in Aus and NZ.Considering that India is the one from which not only brings lots of money through sponsors but through crowds also.Pakistan and Sri Lanka also have good stadiums and the crowd is also good there.I bet u all the stadiums will be full in Aus and NZ when the home team will be playing there but when other teams will be playing then it will be empty.But if in Asia if u even get half of the stadiums fill with the crowds then it's better than the empty one.

I would like the world cup to be held in Austalia because I live here , but sohummisra is correct. I really do think you are underestimating the sub-continent nations especially India and how much things have changed. India has improved dramatically in recent years and the facilities certainly have improved by a substantial amount. There is just a perception by countries in the Western world and especially Australia that most Asian countries are unhygenic, poor facilities and poor environment. In the end world cups in either Asia or Oceania will be great as both continents will put the maximum amount of effort to stage the best world cup.

UAE and Malaysia might not vote for Asia.
Malaysia was deprived of an ODI tournament between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. We all do know the outstanding problems between the UAE and India.
But on past records,yes UAE would go in for the Asian vote.

Well their population doesn't vote its their Cricket board so it depends how good of a relationship we have with them.

From the looks of things though Asia should have enough votes as predicted.

It's the sponsors that will rake in the money.
Considering the possibilty that Asia gets it,sponsors for India,Pakistan,Lanka and Bangladesh will raise quite a lot.
I suppose you guys remember that when India opted to pull out of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002,PEPSI and a few other Indian companies who sponsor ICC events,decided to back out.
Sure,the money is in the Sub-continent,but they must have proper facilities.

If anyone reads the Times of India daily,you 'll know that they are actually conducting a survey of all Indian cricket grounds.Till now,except for the Eden Gardens no other ground has been rated higher.
