I have designed a new rankings system for international sides, have a look at it.

Tell me what you think.

well yeah i've got a comment bout it, i reckon it is good and cool but i reckon it's a bit to simple, it needs to be more complex. i dunno y though ??

I think it's simplicity is the strong oint. The ICCs ODI rankings table is extremely complicated. I think its good because it takes into account all international matches.

yeah but i mean lots of sporting methods of scoring for the world, i reckon they seem to like it nice and complex so it's hard 4 people to work the rankings themselves.!! but yeah your method is nice and easy, espeically easy to understand dun need to read like 2 pages and get confused.

I like it. Short and sweet. However one thing I dont find quite right is wins against quality opposition isnt rewarded and similarly a team playing and winning many matches against minnows would get a high rating.

Maybe you could use a simple multiplier depending on the opposition rating

Like Aus 2
SA 1.5
Ind 1.4

Zim 1.2

and maybe Bangladesh with a basic 1

so that you get 20 points for a win against Aus and only 10 for a win against Ban ?

Anyway the current system used in cricket is too convoluted

Good idea Vineet, but I want to keep it simple for now. In the individual years you get some strange results, ie. UAE and Namibia are top in 2 years, but I think the 10 year table levels everything out to decent rankings, as a team needs more games to qualify for this table. The teams do need to play a certain amount of games to qualify for the year tables too, otherwise there would be some extremely minor nations topping the lists.

I've updated the site with the results from the triangular tournament in Sri Lanka as well as Scotland's latest results in the National League. It's not changed the standings though.

Go here to have a look if you haven't already.

It was due to the ICC Trophy that year, they won every game in that, only lost 2 ODIs.

I think the 10 year table evens things out.

The site has been updated once again with the results of the Australia v West Indies series, as well as Scotland's latest results in the National League.

The standings haven't changed in the 10 year table, but in the table for this year, the West Indies have dropped a place and Sri Lanka have gone up.

Go here to have a look.

That's CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW the **** can NAMBIA and U.A.E. BE top for TWO years. THIS is a joke. U need to find a way to see where beating harder teams gets more points!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why Namibia and the UAE are top in two years is due to their performances in the ICC Trophy in the relevant years. It is designed to give equal weighting to all international matches. I think giving extra points for beating certain teams complicates the issue too much. The whole point of it is simplicity.

I only put the individual year tables up for interests sake anyway, to let people get an idea of the process. I think the 10 year table is pretty accurate and thats the table I pay attention too.

I'm a little disapointed you couldn't think of a decent argument that didn't involve swearing. Try to be more grown up next time.

Hey Andrew, can I borrow your rankings system to make a program?
I've got my own rain-rule (alternate for D/L) running. Do you want to see it?
