Spending Limits\Salary Caps needed?

With rich buisnessmen starting to take over clubs and other clubs with various other sources gathering huge amounts of money and spending huge amounts each season to strengthen their team, this seems to be leading to the big teams getting even bigger especially the rich teams.Take Chelsea for eg,they used to struggle to get to even 3rd or 4th around 3-4 years back and now they are favorites not only to win the EPL but also the CL.Even clubs like ManU and Liverpool with so much of power and past winnings cant seem to be able to get close to them.Dont you think there needs to be a money limit beyond which players cannot be bought. That would keep in check the amount of players being bought by the big clubs and also give the smaller clubs a chance.

Firstly salary caps are illegal under EU law and secondly if they did have them the top players would simple play somewhere else.

I see.How about just limiting a clubs maximum transfer amount(during a transfer period) to a specific number.(say 50 million pounds)

Obviously I wouldnt agree with any of that. If a club has the money, they are most welcome to spend it.

Ye but chelsea just go stupid with their money. It's not the other teams fault some random russian guy comes along and buys everything for them, giving the other teams no chance.

Its not Abramavich's or Chelsea's problem either. Its up to the other clubs to find investors. He isnt the only rich guy in the world. It is rumoured that Abramovich is talking to Bernie Ecclestone about a russian F1 grand prix (funded by Abramovich of course). Maybe he's losing interest a bit already!

County Captain

European football is way too big and powerful to be able to sustain a salary cap. There is way too many clubs and way too much depth.

The Australian A-league has a salary cap, but with such a small player pool and without huge financial backing for every club. It is important to have some sort of cap on what clubs can spend.

The salery Cap is very important for small leagues like the A-League,but for big leagues it is not something that should be considered.I think though that the FA should look at helping newly promoted clubs just a little more.

If the EPL was a small league like the A-League then a salary cap would be a good idea. It gets boring as Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle are probably the only ones who contend for the title.
