Cricket Game for the Wii?

Well, I was watching this video (there is a box near the top of the page, if you wait a few seconds it should start) earlier, and looking at the tennis, golf and baseball games shown, it occured to me that you could make an absolutely incredible cricket game.

The controller (which I believe is called a Wii-mote) has motion sensors inside it -

The technology is obviously there and capable of making a cricket game. Can you imagine standing there, holding a controller like a bat and hitting Glenn McGrath through the covers for 4, by actual physical movement instead of pressing the right button at the right time?

Now, I imagine the costs for making a game like this would be quite large, so they'd have to have guarenteed sales to make it. However, the Wii is going to be the cheapest of the next-gen consoles (I believe Nintendo have announced that it will be no more than $250 (£133) on release), which will help, it has a few killer launch titles (the new Zelda game, the new Mario game, and the new Metroid game, among others) and I can imagine a lot of people (myself included) buying it simply because it's so cool to do something ourselves for once - one example shown in the video is a swordfight, with the player using the control like a sword and his movements being replicated in the game. Hopefully, the Wii should sell enough to make a cricket game financially viable.

Apart from being hugely fun to play, a cricket game on the Wii could even be benficial, allowing players to practise their technique in a safe and fun environment.

What do you think, people? IS it a real possibility or jusy my wishful thinking? And would a decent cricket game persuade you to but a Wii just to play it?

If somebody makes a game, this would simply be dream come true.
Actually, Cricket has so many shots and innovations that keyboards can't keep up with.
Wii would remove this limit and make it wonderful.

However, there is one glitch.A bat is held in two hands, while a sword is held in one.
hence playing a shot with a single hand is a little wierd.
Imagine hitting sixes, single handed!

Personally I think it would be a great idea if it is pulled off. At the moment that is one of the key areas for Wi. Will developers be able to fully utilise their innovation or will they only produce a few games that are actually any good.

Leo I think if it existed I would play it with my second hand still in the position as though I was holding a bat. Would feel odd otherwise.

The video shows a woman putting in golf, with both hands on the Wii-mote.

I think it would be quite cool and it was the first thing that I thought of, wouldn't be great to actually be in the thick-of-it and only your batting skills could depend on how you did

Well it would take a lot of development, becoz its not like you can just port it to PS3 or something once you're done (or vice-versa). Wii will need to sell loads before a company even thinks about it. Would also help if the public got interested in cricket again, e.g. by England winning the Ashes or the WC.
Another thing, it would only really sell in the UK, possibly a few in the Netherlands, and maybe a few other places.

But if a miracle happened, it would be amazing.

Btw, good find. Enjoyed all the video, definetely getting this console. Awesome.

If I remember right there will be a rugby game made specially for the wii by a large company (possibly EA, I can't remember) and it will take advantage of the wiimote fully. Baseball games would share some things in common with a cricket game so it isn't totally out of the question. Wii is defenately the next-gen console I would most likely get, a cricket game would seal the deal, and if they don't make one I can always get my old favorite Super International Cricket in the Classic Game thing

In the tennis game forces the player to move by itself while the player only hits it.

What type of view would this game be? The typical one (down the pitch) or 1st person?

I must admit that the first time I'd seen the wii sports games I immediately thought "that would we so cool as a cricket game".

Don't think the japanese are really into their cricket though are they??

because its new, developers don't know how to work it.
they will have to learn, and get some understanding to develop the game.

and then EA philosophy, all that for a "stupid" game cricket? EA THINKS it has better time for else.
