New Manager

Real Madrid CF have announced on their website that Reserves coach Juan Roman Lopez Caro has been given the job on a permanent basis. The Spaniard takes over from Wanderlei Luxemburgo.

Lopez Caro - In the line of fire

*Note that I will be starting with the 2005-06 season and will also do the World Cup 2006*

Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos sold!
Ronaldo, Madrid's top goalscorer for the last three seasons, has made a £14 million move back to his former club, FC Barcelona. Team-mate Roberto Carlos, who spent eight seasons at the club, winning three European cups, and three league titles in the process, has been signed up by AC Milan for £10 million.

Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid after three seasons

Real Madrid coach Juan Roman Lopez Caro defended both these transfers by saying that he needs to look into the future of the club.

"Both Ronaldo and Roberto are excellent players and have served this club well. But I need to build a team for the next 5-10 years, and for that I need to look to youth."

Real Madrid make three signings
Juan Roman Lopez Caro has made his first signings, since taking over as the manager of the nine time European champions.
Real Betis' Joaquin makes his long awaited move to the capital club for a massive £29 million. He is joined there by Jose Antonio Reyes, who moves from Arsenal on a free transfer, after having his contracted terminated by mutual consent. Real Madrid have also signed Diego Tristan from Deportivo La Coruna for £5 million.

Start of the Season

Season starts..

Real Madrid manager, Juan Roman Lopez Caro, will be under the spotlight as he takes charge of what is one of the toughest jobs in the world. After underperforming in the past few seasons, the board expects the team to put things back into place. Winner of 9 European crowns and 29 league titles, Real Madrid havent won any silverware since winning the league back in 2003.

Friendlies announced:

Real Madrid will play four friendlies in July.

5th July, 2005 - Real Madrid v Valencia @ Santiago Bernabeu
12th July, 2005 - Barcelona v Real Madrid @ Nou Camp*
22nd July, 2005 - Real Madrid v Schalke 04 @ Santiago Bernabeu
27th July, 2005 - Aston Villa v Real Madrid @ Villa Park*

*Will be shown LIVE on Sky Sports
The remaining games will be shown LIVE on Real Madrid TV.

Woodgate ruled out of Valencia game
Defender Jonathan Woodgate will not be available for Real Madrid's friendly match against Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Injury problems continue for Woodgate

But apart from that newly appointed manager Juan Roman Lopez Caro has no other injury worries.

Speaking to Realmadrid.com, the 43 year old Spaniard said,"These final run of frendlies are crucial, as I will be fielding my main players a lot more, in order to have them match-fit before the start of the season."

Real play arch rivals Valencia and Barcelona in the span of 8 days, and the manager believes it will be the perfect preparation ahead of the new season.

"Any match involving these teams will be competetive, which is a great thing for us."

The manager also rubbished rumours that England captain David Beckham might be on his way out of the capital club.

"David is a vital member of this side. He will have to play a big role this season, and his experience and skill will be crucial for the team."

Speaking on his new signings, Lopez Caro emphasized on the importance of having good wingers in the side.

"You must have lots of width, for which you need players who can utilise the flanks well. And in Jose Antonio Reyes and Joaquin Sanchez we will get just that. Diego Tristan, will boost our already strong strike-force."

Well I am hoping for a lot from him, since the defence isnt very strong. But if he doesnt play enough games, then I might consider selling him in January.

Good start so far, Woodgate is quality when he's fit. If he can get to 100% and stay like that you should keep him

No probs.Real need a backup defender in any case so try buying one.You could either opt for experience such as a Jaap Stam or you could go for youth with someone like Phillipe Senderos or Micheal Dawson.Id keep Beckham for a year as he performance at Madrid has been excellent.Try getting the young lad from Athletico Madrid Torres,he could be invaluable.

Cesar Arzo of Villarreal would be a cheap signing. He's a promising spanish defender.
Also try Gabriel Milito.

Friendly: Real Madrid vs Valencia

Friendly
Real Madrid vs Valencia

Real Madrid's pre season preparation sees them play a big game, against arch rivals Valencia.

Real are still without the injured Jonathan Woodgate, although it was revealed today that the England defender was very close to making his return.

Valencia too have a full squad to choose from.

Lineup:
Lopez Caro is definately taking this game seriously, and hence has fielded a very strong starting lineup. An all Spanish defence, with Sergio Ramos, £18.5 million signing from Sevilla, under the spotlight, making his Real Madrid debut. New signings Jose Antonio Reyes and Joaquin Sanchez both start on either flank, with Guti and David Beckham playing in the centre. Upfront sees the captain Raul partner the Brazilian youngster Robinho. Iker Casillas keeps goal.

Match Events:

Halftime: Real Madrid 0-0 Valencia

Goal: Real Madrid 0-1 Valencia

Pablo Aimar scores from the penalty spot to put the visitors in front.

Red Card:

Michel Salgado is sent off for a two legged tackle on Ludovic Butelle.

Goal: Real Madrid 0-2 Valencia

Edu's header doubles Valencia's lead. Great cross from Vicente.

A bad start for new manager Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, who got a nice dose of reality, during that 2-0 defeat to Valencia. Clearly shows a lot of work is to be done before the season starts.
